1998 Summary:
Samples of ground ice and permafrost soil, will be collected, and also air, ground and lake water temperatures measured. This information will be used to understand how permafrost conditions in the area have changed in the last few thousand years. We also measure ground movement to determine how the ground deforms during the year in particular we measure the tilting of trees at regular intervals t...

19961995199419931992 Summary:
A 16 foot inflatable boat and 40 hp motor will be used in junction with helicopters to transport 2 people and assorted equipment to coastal locations along the Tuktoyaktuk Peninsula, North Head and Mackenzie Delta. Each location is the site of long-term monitoring where repeat surveys are performed. The surveys are done to measure changes in water depth, erosion rate, sediment type and permafros...

199619951994199319921991 Summary:
The purpose is to collect samples of ground ice and to measure air, ground and lake temperatures. We use the information to help understand how the permafrost in the area has changed in the last few thousand years, in order to determine what might happen in the future....

19931992 Summary:
The researcher will sample a variety of lakes (some 50 lakes altogether) around Inuvik. A hole, approximately 8 inches in diameter, will be bored through the ice in each lake. Using an Ekman sampler, lake bottom sediments (mud) will be collected for analysis in the lab. The researchers will get to each of the lakes bt helicopter and spend approximately 15 to 20 minutes at each lake....

1989 Summary:
The researcher will take 5 mm diameter increment core samples from old-aged trees growing near the tree line. This sampling is not harmful to the trees. At two sites the researcher will sample about 10 trees. The samples are processed to produce ring-width and wood- density data for each annual ring. This data will then be statistically compared to meteorological data to make estimates of past cl...

199219911990 Summary:
The researcher will continue her long-term study on the physical features of the Mackenzie Delta. Hydrocarbon development, water volume and course changes, and climate change could have major effects on the water and sedimentation patterns of the delta. This study will increase knowledge of sedimentation patterns, shoreline erosion and their relationships with vegetation....
