1994
199319921991 Summary:
The researcher will continue to collect samples of ground ice and measure temperatures in lakes and ponds. This information is used to help understand how the ground heaves as it freezes in winter, and to determine the extent of soil settlement during thaw in summer. The information about lakes is used to help understand the relations between water depths and temperatures beneath the lake....
Principal Investigator:French, Hugh Licensed Year(s):
1993
Summary:
My research is about cracks in permafrost that have been filled in with wind-blown sand. In cliffs, these filled-in crackes appear as `veins' of sand. I will record the distribution and characteristics of these veins of sand. This information may help to determine the history behind how the cracks formed and the environmental conditions of the Mackenzie Delta up to 40,000 years ago....
Principal Investigator:McIntyre, David J. Licensed Year(s):
1992
1990 Summary:
The Researchers will collect rock samples for study of fossil algae (dinoflagellates) and will determine the geological age. They will correlate findings with similar material from wells and will determine climate and environment conditions at the time the rocks were deposited....
Principal Investigator:Fyles, John G. Licensed Year(s):1992
1991
1990 Summary:
On Melville and Bathurst Islands, the Researchers will locate and describe the occurrence of high-level gravels and sands, record evidence of the flow-direction of the rivers in which they originated and search for plant and insect fossils that may provide clues about the age of these deposits and about the climate and environment at that time....
Principal Investigator:Worsley, Peter Licensed Year(s):
1988
Summary:
Dr. Worsley is coming from England with his research associates to continue his studies of how the rocks, landscape, and permafrost of Banks Island have changed in the last million years. He is interested in using this information to try to determine what conditions where like in England long ago....
