Investigation of ground ice development in sediments of the Mackenzie Delta area
chercheur principal: Burn, Chris R
Année(s) de permis: 1997 1996 1995 1994 1993 1992 1991
Résumé: The researcher will continue to collect samples of ground ice and measure temperatures in lakes and ponds. This information is used to help understand how the ground heaves as it freezes in winter, and to determine the extent of soil settlement during thaw in summer. The information about lakes is used to help understand the relations between water depths and temperatures beneath the lake....

Upper Silurian reef mounds at the Douro-Devon Island formational boundary, Devon and southwestern Ellesmere Islands
chercheur principal: Dixon, O.A.
Année(s) de permis: 1993 1992 1990 1988
Résumé: In the Arctic Islands, we are studying rocks and the fossils found within these rocks that were formed more than 400 million years ago in warm tropical seas. This study is expected to help in describing the temperatures, climate and water depths of these ancient seas. We are also studying the types of fossil corals and sponge-like animals that are not present in our seas today....

Limnology of Phalarope, Fish, and Upper Beschel Lakes of Truelove Lowlands (Devon Island)
chercheur principal: Scheibli, Frank

Résumé: Frank Scheibli and Alex Wolfe are part of Dr. King's research party working on the Truelove Lowlands. They are sampling the waters of three larger lakes to record depths, temperatures, and chemical properties. They want to know how these things affect the formation of sediments on the bottom of the lake....
