Objective(s): To revisit fixed sample stations at near-field, mid-field and far-field sites over the course of the year in an effort to determine any seasonal variation that may exist and confirm Environmental Assessment (EA) impact predictions.
Project Description: This licence has been issued for the scientific research application No.5416. To revisit fixed sample stations at near-field, mid-field and far-field sites over the course of the year in an effort to determine any seasonal variation that may exist and confirm Environmental Assessment (EA) impact predictions. The AEMP Version 5.2 will consist of the following components: traditional ecological knowledge, dust deposition, effluent and water chemistry, indicators of eutrophication, sediment chemistry, plankton, benthic invertebrates, fish population health, contaminants in fish tissues, and weight-of-evidence. Fish collection will primarily be conducted using electrofishing and nets. Diavik Diamond Mines (2012) Inc. (DDMI) reports to the following boards and government organizations: Wek’èezhìi Land and Water Board (WLWB), Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) and Environmental Monitoring Advisory Board(EMAB). Aquatics Effects Monitoring Program (AEMP) summary information is provided in DDMI's Annual Environmental Agreement Report (EAAR) which is produced annually and undergoes a review by EMAB, GNWT and other stakeholders. The executive summary of EAAR is translated into several Indigenous languages. Summary AEMP information is also provided in an annual technical AEMP Report which is produced annually and also undergoes a WLWB lead public review. DDMI also updates Impact Benefit Agreement (IBA) communities during community visits throughout the year. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from January 23, 2023 to September 29, 2023.
