Objective(s): To determine any seasonal variation in water quality, zooplankton & phytoplankton biomass and taxonomy, benthic invertebrate analysis and sediment chemistry, and will also include dust monitoring.

Project Description: The objective of this study is to determine any seasonal variation in water quality, zooplankton & phytoplankton biomass and taxonomy, benthic invertebrate analysis and sediment chemistry, and will also include dust monitoring. Transportation will be by boat, snow machine, and helicopter. Samples will be taken for water chemistry, phosphorous & nitrogen, sediment, benthic invertebrates, zooplankton, phytoplankton, chlorophyll a, and dust. Results are supplied to WLWB, DFO, EC, INAC and EMAB, and a summary is provided in DDMI's Annual Environmental Agreement report. The executive summary is translated into several languages. DDMI also gives updates during community visits over the year. Four seasonal positions are available to local communities, with support given to the Environmental Monitor Training Program offered by Aurora College when selecting these candidates. Fieldwork will be conducted from April 01 to October 15, 2008 at Diavik Diamond Mine, Lac de Gras (64"30'N, 110"30' W).
