Objective(s): To continue with phytoremediation planting on the Nota Creek C-17 well site. Additional soil lifts will continue to be integrated into the phytoremediation process until all impacted soil is remediated.
Project Description: The objective of this research project is to continue with phytoremediation planting on the Nota Creek C-17 well site. Additional soil lifts will continue to be integrated into the phytoremediation process until all impacted soil is remediated. Planting is planned for late June, a site monitoring and evaluation trip to the site will be conducted in August and harvesting is projected for late September. Once planted soil meets applicable guidelines additional impacted soil will be introduced into the phytoremediation. The process will be repeated until all impacted soil is remediated. The Research Work Program involves the planting and harvesting of specific plant species on the Nota Creek C-17 well site. Local services will benefit economically during the field operations by the provision of labor to assist with site planting, monitoring and harvesting. Local services will also be utilized to provide lodging, transportation and heavy equipment. The 2014 site planting results will be communicated to Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC), the Sahtu Land and Water Board (SLWB) and the Aurora Research Institute once all laboratory analyses are completed. Significant developments will be communicated to the community organizations identified. Both AANDC and the SLWB will be kept apprised of the 2015 field work as it progresses. Significant developments will be communicated to the community organizations identified for consultation. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from June 1, 2015 to October 15, 2015.
