Objective(s): To continue with phytoremediation planting on the Nota Creek C-17 well site in order to determine the efficiency of the phytoremediation program and to further validate it as a remediation strategy for the well site.

Project Description: To continue with phytoremediation planting on the Nota Creek C-17 well site. More impacted soil has been integrated into the phytoremediation process and additional plantings are necessary to determine the efficiency of the phytoremediation program and to further validate it as a remediation strategy for the well site. The 2013 soil remediation results supported the incorporation of another impacted soil distribution into the phytoremediation process. Site planting on the new soil distribution will be conducted in late June 2014, site monitoring and evaluation will be conducted during the growing season (typically in August) and site harvesting is projected for late September. Once planted soil meets applicable guidelines additional impacted soil will be introduced into the phytoremediation. The process will be repeated till all impacted soil are remediated. The 2013 Research Work Program involved continued phytoremediation of the current soil lift and the incorporation of another soil lift to the site phytoremediation. Field operations planned for 2014 will involve the planting and harvesting of specific plant species on the Nota Creek C-17 wellsite. The 2013 site planting results will be communicated to Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC), the Sahtu Land and Water Board (SLWB) and the Aurora Research Institute once all laboratory analyses are fully assessed. The 2013 Summary Progress Report has already been submitted to the Aurora Research Institute. Significant developments will be communicated to the community organizations identified for consultation. Both INAC and the SLWB will be kept apprised of the 2014 field work as it progresses. Significant developments will also be communicated to the community organizations identified for consultation The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from June 1, 2014 to October 1, 2014.
