Objective(s): The objective of this research is to commence phytoremediation trial planting on the Nota Creek C-17 wellsite to confirm its suitability to the technology.

Project Description: This licence was issued for the scientific research application number 755. The objective of this research is to commence phytoremediation trial planting on the Nota Creek C-17 wellsite to confirm its suitability to the technology. Benchtop testing of samples collected in 2007 is expected to be completed by early spring. Once a date is set for test planting, a garden tractor will be mobilized to the site by helicopter. Trial plots (10m x 20m) will be seeded with recommended plant species and monitored throughout the growing season. The plants will be harvested at the end of the growing season and the site assessed for phytoremediation efficiency. The garden tractor may be winterized on site for future use. Results will be communicated to Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC), Sahtu Land and Water Board, and community organizations. A progress report work will be submitted to the Aurora Research Institute. Local services will benefit economically during the program providing lodging, transportation, monitoring and field assistance. Fieldwork will be conducted from March 01 to October 15, 2008, at The Nota Creek C-17 wellsite (65 06'01" N, 126 02'58" W) approximately 43km SE of Norman Wells and 38km NW of Tulita.
