Objective(s): To continue with phytoremediation planting on the Nota Creek C-17 well site.
Project Description: The objective of this study is to continue with phytoremediation planting on the Nota Creek C-17 well site. Additional plantings are necessary to determine the efficiency of the phytoremediation program and to further assess its viability as a remediation strategy for the well site. A backhoe will be mobilized to the site under frozen ground conditions. A portion of or all of the impacted soil still buried will be excavated and spread on surface for phytoremediation. A June planting, August assessment and late September harvest will still be undertaken. The 2011 Research Work Program involves further excavation of the well site under frozen ground conditions. Site work from June to October includes the planting, assessing and harvesting of specific plant species from the well site. Local services will benefit economically during the field operations by providing excavation equipment, lodging and transportation services, and planting, monitoring and harvesting assistance. The site planting results will be communicated to Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC), the Sahtu Land and Water Board (SLWB) and the Aurora Research Institute once the laboratory analysis is completed. The Summary Progress Report has already been submitted to the Aurora Research Institute. Significant developments will be communicated to the community organizations identified for consultation. Both INAC and the SLWB will be kept apprised of the field work as it progresses. Here again, significant developments will be communicated to the community organizations identified for consultation. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from March 16, 2011 to October 5, 2011.
