Objective(s): To advance the development of geotechnical techniques used in investigation of permafrost and ground ice by regulatory agencies, industry and government.

Project Description: The Geological Survey of Canada, as part of its on-going research activities, is planning to carry out a geotechnical survey in order to improve certain techniques used in investigating permafrost and ground ice characteristics. The techniques used are shear wave seismic reflection profiling (to determine soil properties) and drilling (to determine the origin of massive ground ice bodies in the vicinity of Ya Ya Lake and Lousy Point).
