Description du projet: The project objectives include the collection of information on: water and groundwater, sediment, benthic invertebrates, fish (species presence/abundance, quality, habitat), vegetation, soil/tailings/wasterock, radiological characterization, mine openings, infrastructure and general site conditions. Environmental sampling and monitoring work at the Port Radium site is a continuation of activities directed by the Canada-Deline Uranium Table. Activities at the El Bonanza and Contact Lake sites are not part of the process, but the community is informed through a Community Liaison. The community of Deline has been involved extensively in the assessment, including participation in field programs, site visits and a multi-year consultation/communication program through the Canada-Deline Uranium Table. The work involves manual sampling and measurement with minimal disturbance of site conditions. No heavy equipment or drills will be used. Tranportation to the site will be via fixed-wing aircraft. On-site transporation may include ATVs and small boats. The research team will travel to the sites on a daily basis from Plummer's Main Lodge on the Dease Arm of Great Bear Lake. Reports will be provided to INAC, who will communicate this information to individuals and communities. A minimum of two individuals from Deline will be hired to assist in the sampling programs, bear monitoring and on-site support. Procurement of equipment and services will be obtained from Deline where possible. The study will be conducted at Port Radium Mine: 66.09, -118.03, El Bonanza Mine: 66.0028, -118.075, and Contact Lake Mine: 65.9944, -117.8 approximately 275 km northeast of Deline.
