Description du projet: This research program is a continuation of the environmental assessment of the existing conditions at and near the Port Radium site. Information collected during this study will add to the base of existing information and aid in refining the final decommissioning plan for the site. The work will be done through manual sampling and measurement; no heavy equipment or drills will be used. Sampling of water, soil and surface materials (rock on roads and site areas) will be conducted. As well, gamma measurements and GPS surveys will be done by the researchers. All motorized vehicle transportation on site (ATVs) will be limited to existing roads. The researchers have already hired four field technicians from Déline. The camp cook and assistant will also come from Déline. The researchers have also already arranged for the rental of various pieces of equipment from Déline. A field report and final report will be prepared for DIAND. Many community meetings related to Port Radium work have already happened in Déline. It is anticipated that DIAND will organize other such meetings to engage the community in issues related to decommissioning options. The study will be conducted at Port Radium, from July 10 to July 22, 2005.
