Objective(s): To deploy and recover subsea sonar instruments to measure the motion, thickness and ridging of sea ice as it drifts overhead between March and August; to repeat a survey of seawater temperature and salinity properties in the Beaufort Sea in late winter and to study their relation to ice thickness, drift and growth conditions during the preceding six months;

Project Description: Sonar instruments will be deployed from the ice cover at two locations on the continental shelf north and east of Tuktoyaktuk. They will operate on the seafloor until recovery in August. The survey of seawater properties will be conducted at selected sites throughout the offshore.
