Palynological studies in the Mackenzie Observatory

Summary: This project continues to examine the history of plant communities in the Mackenzie River and Delta regions over the past 15,000 years. Using a hand auger, core samples of sediments are taken from lake bottoms and the sediments are analyzed for the presence of pollen and diatoms. Summary: This study will investigate the long-term stability of the arctic "oases" of Polar Bear Pass and Hot Weather Creek by the pollen analyses of lake sediment cores.
