Objective(s): The purpose of this study (2003 component) is to examine the fossilized types of corals that are found in the regional geological formations. Locally these corals coalesced to form mini-reefs, with interesting ecological characteristics. From the study of these bodies, the researcher hopes to better define the factors that controlled where these patches developed, how the organisms interacted, and what caused their demise. This is part of the researcher's Ph.D. research at the University of Alberta. Data collection will generally involve sketching outcrops, documenting the relationships between different fossil types, and photographing these features. Representative fist-sized samples will also be collected.
