Objective(s): To study the development of Devonian reefs, as exposed in areas and roadcuts between Hay River and Fort Simpson. This is to better understand the different types of reefs that grew in the area 370 million years ago, and how they formed large bodies of limestone. Changes in the chemistry and fabrics of the rocks over time is also a key interest of the investigation. All of this information is important to the petroleum and mining industries, and for comparison to other Devonian reefs, on a global scale.
