Objective(s): Our understanding of Permian and Triassic geology in the northern Yukon and adjacent NWT is very basic and this project is intended to advance our knowledge of these rocks in order to understand their origins and to evaluate their economic potential. The 1996 field work will be the final year for data collection (project began in 1992).
Project Description: Specific sites will be visited using daily helicopter flights based out of Inuvik. Site visits will last from 15 minutes to several hours and at each site the rocks will be identified and described, the vertical arrangements of rocks will be measured and noted, and samples (about fist-sized) will be taken where deemed necessary. Samples will be taken to Calgary where they will be used either to make thin-sections for examination under a microscope or to recover microscopic fossils. Only basic geological tools will be used (a hammer for sample collection and a 1.5 m measuring stick)
