Objective(s): To determine the ecological and geological importance of benthic disturbance by ice scouring in the nearshore arctic environment.
Project Description: The researchers will investigate the effect that sea ice has on shaping and scouring the sea bottom since these actions may play a major role in determining the sea bottom environment and the types of plants and animals that may live there. They will revisit the 1992 site in order to determine what new scours have appeared: those locations with fresh scrapes on the bottom will be monitored over the years to determine how plants and animals return to the location.
