Objective(s): To investigate local sources of contaminants located at the DEW Line sites of Sarcpa Lake, Bray Island, Nadlaurdjuk Lake, Ekalugad Fiord, Kivitoo, Durban Island and Resolution Island in the NWT; to assess the redistribution of persistent contaminants such as inorganic elements and organochlorines through biogeochemical cycling.

Project Description: The Environmental Sciences Group has been requested by Indian and Northern Affairs to conduct environmental investigations of abandoned DEW Line sites (Intermediate sites) on or near Baffin Island. A major focus of this study is an evaluation of contaminants at the sites and their presence in the water, soils, vegetation and wildlife. The research will also identify when and where remedial measures can be most effectively applied.
