Objective(s): To continue to research the fossil plants of the high arctic contained in the 40-70 million-year-old sediments.
Project Description: The researchers will continue to examine the fossil plants that are contained in sediments that are 40-70 million years old. Sites include the northeastern region of Axel Heiberg Island and the Stenkul Fiord region of central Ellesmere Island. A trip to Bathurst Island is scheduled to verify a more recent discovery of fossilized plants. The data collected wil contribute to our knowledge about the lush forests that once covered the polar regions.
