Objective(s): To continue the work begun in 1987 on the links between climate and geomorphic processes which include the following: to monitor stream flow and sediment transport in Station Creek and Hot Weather Creek; to measure rates of solifluction; to inventory any new active-layer detachment slides; to install temperature monitoring devices on a bedrock tor in the Sawtooth Mountains and retrieve data recorded over the past year at another tor; to examine the sedimentology, distribution and frequency of debris flows on the east side of the Sawtooth Mountains.
Project Description: The aim of this ongoing research is to establish links between climate and the movements of soil. By collecting this type of data, it may be possible to determine the effect that climate changes may have on the movements of soil down slopes, into rivers and eventually into the sea.
