Objective(s): To meet with administrators, teachers and others involved with the Baffin Divisional Board of Education; to investigate the Baffin Divisional Board's Piniaqtavut process of developing instructional programs, particularly as it utilizes community knowledge; to better understand how the Baffin Divisional Board has successfully begun to turn a western educational system into one which operates in the cultural context of the Inuit; to explore how the Baffin Divisional Board might be able to utilize other circumpolar resources within the Clearinghouse network;
Project Description: The researchers will identify and share exemplary programs and processes in circumpolar education. They will investigate the design and results of the research program established to assess the effectiveness of the Piniaqtavut program (developing instructional programs which use community knowledge). They will also explore how the Baffin Divisional Board may be able to utilize other circumpolar resources from circumpolar educators.
