Objective(s): To quantitatively describe key ecosystem components affecting processes in a Subarctic Picea mariana ecosystem; to conduct a detailed monitoring of experimental rehabilitation treatments designed to manipulate disturbances initiated within this ecosystem that were themselves a simulation of a transport corridor; to test, under controlled field conditions, several rehabilitation/revegetation treatements to determine their relative merits over the short and long term.
Project Description: The fieldwork will be carried out to investigate what happens after the surface of the land is changed by clearing of the trees, trenching of the soil or spilling of crude-oil. Ways to lessen these disturbances will be tested to see which are best.
