Objectif(s): The purpose of this study is to improve the public knowledge and understanding of the geology of this area, as no publicly available magnetic survey coverage exists. Survey lines will be flown at a spacing of 800m and a 200m mean terrain clearance (where possible given safety considerations due to rugged terrain). The purpose of the survey will be to record variations in the earth's magnetic field caused by minerals in the rock of the earth's crust. Patterns obtained are indicative of subsurface geology and are used as an important element of geological mapping and resource exploration. The Regional Aeromegnetic Mapping Program has been carried out by the GSC since the 1940s. Private sector partners are encouraged, although at this time we have no signed agreements in place. The data obtained in the survey will be prepared, published and distributed by the GSC.

Description du projet: The purpose of this study is to improve the public knowledge and understanding of the geology of this area, as no publicly available magnetic survey coverage exists. This survey is entirely airborne, with no land access. The aircraft will be equipped with a state of the art magnetometer and navigation systems, including Global Positioning System (GPS). The aircraft will be operating from existing airports in either Norman Wells, Fort Good Hope, or Inuvik. All survey data will eventually be made available through the GSC Geophysical Data Center.
