Objectif(s): The specific goals of the project are: to identify, photograph, collect, preserve and catalogue plant and animal parts used for healing; to document their preparation and form for use; to interview elders about their uses and to obtain the context of theories of health and illness which dictate their use, including spiritual factors; to verify findings in the Dogrib region; to consult with community people about applications of this knowledge in the education and health delivery systems; to disseminate the executive summary in the 8 NWT Official Languages and distribute the report to interested health professionals & to others interested in traditional knowledge.
Description du projet: No baseline information has been systematically collected for the Dene about traditional use of plants and animal parts used for healing. There are still Dogrib elders who hold and use this information and the Dene are eager to have this knowledge documented so that they can continue to teach it to young people.
