Objective(s): To continue to identify the magnitude of atmospheric inputs of contaminants to the Belcher Islands by collecting and analyzing samples of lake sediments and fish. Similar work was conducted in 1983 and 1990.

Project Description: We will collect and analyze sediments and fish collected from Imitavik, Annak and Kasegalik Lakes in order to assess the type and levels of contaminants present. Kasegalik Lake contains fish that are considerably different in size that those from other lakes and, since the accumulation of contaminants in fish are related to both the size and the age of the fish, it is possible that fish collected from Kasegalik Lake will contain different levels of contaminants.
