Project Description: This licence has been issued for the scientific research application No.4797. The goal of this project is to addresses the need for Dene leading their own Dene education through collaborative community work. The Principal Investigator (PI) will conduct an interview with participants to discuss Dëné Dédliné Yati?´, and Dëné ways of living and learning. Interviews will be held with Dëné in the two communities Fort Smith and Fort Resolution. Interviews will be held over the phone or through Skype. Interviews will take between 30 minutes to two hours. The PI will record the interviews, transcribe them, and share what was said back to the participant. At that time the participant can make any changes they wish and return to the PI. After the participants review the PI will start to review what was said in the interviews and how to best share the study results back to the participant and Dëné Dédliné Yati?´ programs. It will take about a month to conduct these interviews, review all the information shared and decide how to best share the results to the communities, and with others. The participants will be asked for their opinion on the best way to share the study results. If the participants would like, a translator will be provided to ensure both understand the form, and that the words during the interviews are expressed accurately. Before the participant make a decision, one of the researchers will go over this form with them. The participant are encouraged to ask questions if they feel anything needs to be made clearer. The participant will be given a copy of this form for their records. The PI will reach out to communities, Education, Culture, and Employment, and those who share their words in the interview to determine the best ways to share this research back with community members. This will look like providing the full report back to each nation, and community member for their review along the way. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from September 24, 2020 to December 31, 2020.
