Objective(s): To survey a representative sample of the entire length of the Old Airport Road (i.e. disturbed areas) for invasive species and rare plants.
Project Description: To survey a representative sample of the entire length of the Old Airport Road (i.e. disturbed areas) for invasive species and rare plants. Rare plant surveys will be conducted in accordance with the Alberta Native Plant Council (ANPC) guidelines (ANPC 2012) and the Golder Technical Procedures for Rare Plant and Rare Community Surveys. Surveys will be performed when potential rare species are most visible and flowers or fruiting structures can confirm the species identity. A systematic meander search pattern will be utilized to cover most habitat variations and micro-sites within targeted sites of the study area and preferably within high and moderate rare plant potential vegetation types. For plants that are not identifiable in the field, whenever possible, plant material vouchers will be collected if the immediate population can withstand the loss (<4% loss of individuals). Weed surveys are targeted for areas with a high potential of occurrence such as disturbances (i.e., rights-of-ways, roadsides, areas around facilities, etc.), open areas and riparian zones. Target species include those species on the Weed Control Act and invasive species identified NWT. Results will be communicated to interested parties through the Tlicho Road Corridor Working Group. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from August 15, 2018 to September 28, 2018.
