Objective(s): To determine the interest of the Thebacha Campus learning community (students, instructors, program administrators, and Elders) and gather advice in the indigenization of its science classes.

Project Description: The objective of this research project is to determine the interest of the Thebacha Campus learning community (students, instructors, program administrators, and Elders) in the indigenization of its science classes. It is also expected to gather advice that will assist the researcher, with indigenizing her science classes. The researcher will facilitate four sharing circles to generate discussion on indigenization of science classes with four different groups of knowledge holders: students, instructors, program administrators, and community Elders. It is expected that approximately 19 people will participate: six students, six instructors, four project administrators, and two or three Elders. The sharing circles will be conducted in the Culture Room at Thebacha Campus. They will audiotaped so that the resercher can participate more fully in the discussion, rather than taking notes. The sharing circles should last for no more than 2 hours. Participants will also be invited to review the analysis at a later time. The researcher hopes to interview 2 or 3 Elders who participate in cultural programming at Aurora College (Thebacha Campus). Information gathered from this project will help inform teaching practices and will be shared within the wider Aurora College community. It is hoped that the results may lead to further discussions related to indigenization in other programs and services offered at the college. The researcher will make a presentation at Thebacha Campus Aurora College when the project is completed, which will be open to the public. Copies of the research report as well as a plain language summary will be provided to participants, community organizations, and also submitted to the Chair of Education, Vice President of Education and Training, and President of Aurora College to ensure that there is an institutional record of this research. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from April 21, 2015 to December 31, 2015.
