Objective(s): To upgrade the geological knowledge of an area which hasn’t been studied since the late 1960s and to study and describe rocks exposed in cliff sections along the Brock and Hornaday rivers.

Project Description: The goal of this project is to upgrade the geological knowledge of an area which hasn’t been studied since the late 1960s. The research team hopes to study and describe rocks exposed in cliff sections along the Brock and Hornaday rivers. Work will involve thickness measurements of sedimentary layers (strata) and detailed descriptions (including photography) as well as collection of small (half fist-sized) rock specimens. The research team will also deploy small box-sized geophysical instruments for up to a few hours to analyze magnetic properties of the rocks. In previous work, based near Ulukhaktok, the project team held a community meeting to show results. Copies of the maps produced were distributed and copies of posters highlighting the results of the studies. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from August 11, 2014 to August 20, 2014.
