Objective(s): To collect B. chariclea arctica from sites in the Yukon and Northwest Territories.

Project Description: The primary objective of this project is to collect B. chariclea arctica from sites in the Yukon and Northwest Territories. A network of haplotypes will be constructed, based on the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene, and a mismatch analysis will be performed to determine if genetic structure has been influenced by a sudden expansion in population size or long term stability. Finally, field work will include observations of the behavior of Boloria and other butterfly species. The investigator will make short-term use of sites from Bug Lake off the Husky Chanel to the White Mountains of Yukon Territory. The investigator will travel by foot to the collection sites. The investigator will camp, start no fires, and remove all garbage that is generated. At all sites, caution will be used so as not to unnecessarily stress animals when present. Results of this study will be communicated by email to interested parties. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from June 21, 2013 to July 6, 2013.
