Objectif(s): To assist Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada - Contaminants and Remediation Directorate (AANDC-CARD) with its ongoing work to clean up abandoned mine sites across the Northwest Territories. The program aims to identify any concerns at the site and to use these findings to create a Remediation Action Plan (RAP).

Description du projet: The objective of the Copper Pass Phase III Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) and Remedial Planning Program is to assist AANDC-CARD with its ongoing work to clean up abandoned mine sites across the Northwest Territories. The program aims to identify any concerns at the site and to use these findings to create a Remediation Action Plan (RAP). Samples of waste rock, soil, vegetation, water, sediment and benthic invertebrates will be collected from the Copper Pass Mine. The samples will be collected manually (e.g. shovels and water samplers) and the only mechanical equipment used will be a 15 hp boat motor to power the inflatable zodiac. A survey crew may be hired to conduct a detailed survey of the site, and will use GPS survey equipment (no vegetation clearing required). At the completion of field work and receipt of sample results, reports will be prepared for AANDC-CARD. AANDC-CARD will be responsible for ultimately communicating the results to the communities. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from August 24, 2012 to September 15, 2012.
