Project Description: This licence is issued for the scientific research application # 926. The goal of this river geomorphology program is to describe the Slave River’s channel landforms and sediment characteristics and assess the sensitivity of these river landforms to potential changes in stream hydrology. Field visits will include a reconnaissance flight via helicopter along the Slave River (from Fort Smith to the Slave River Delta) to describe geomorphic conditions while identifying specific erosion sources, depositional environments and the potential for river channel change. Limited bed and bank material sampling will also take place. Sediment samples will be limited to hand sample size. Flights will take place over 3 or 4 days. The researchers will be based out of Fort Smith and plan to hire residents of Fort Smith to assist with the field work. The fieldwork for this study will be conducted from October 15 to November 15, 2008 along Slave River from Fort Smith to Slave River Delta.
