Objective(s): The objective of this research is to acquire well test data to characterize the properties and concentration of gas hydrates at Mallik.
Project Description: The objective of this research is to acquire well test data to characterize the properties and concentration of gas hydrates at Mallik. Researchers will collect samples, conduct ground temperature monitoring to evaluate the geothermal regimes controlling gas hydrate stability, and integrate data to better understand gas hydrates in permafrost environments and their potential as a future energy resource. Inuvialuit Oilfield Services has been retained to provide expertise, project management, and supervision for activities. JOGMEC and NRCan will undertake the scientific research and development for the Project. Up to 10 or more researchers will be on site and in Inuvik from mid-February to mid-April. Well data and reports will be filed as required. Databases and reports will be publically released through journals and publications. Community visits are scheduled. Local residents will have opportunities for training & employment, and were / will be able to bid on service contracts. Fieldwork will be conducted from February 05 to September 30, 2008 at the Mallik research well-site, Mallik Bay, Richards Island (69°27.671'N, 134°39.680'W).
