Objective(s): This will be the second year of baseline environmental data collection, collected by Gartner Lee Ltd. on behalf of Anaconda Gold Corp. for the Damoti Gold Project. These studies will build on existing environmental data that was collected previously by various sources. The following tasks are associated with this study: fish and fish habitat assessments, hydrologic assessments and water quality assessments.
Project Description: This will be the second year of baseline environmental data collection, collected by Gartner Lee Ltd. on behalf of Anaconda Gold Corp. for the Damoti Gold Project. These studies will build on existing environmental data that was collected previously by various sources. The following tasks are associated with this study: fish and fish habitat assessments, hydrologic assessments and water quality assessments. All field staff will access the site via plane or helicopter from Yellowknife and will stay at the camp located just off the summer access road at Damoti Lake. Sample locations will be accessed by foot, helicopter or boat. A site visit will take place in July to collect water quality samples, stream flows and download the weather station. In late August/early September the final site visit will take place to assess fish and fish habitat, take water quality samples and capture low flows in the streams. A site visit may take place in late fall to collect under ice water quality samples. All data will be collected in accordance with industry and corporate standards. Anticipated fish species are lake trout, arctic grayling, whitefish, northern pike, burbot, sculpin, ninespine stickleback and lake chub. A portion of these species caught will be lethally sampled to collect various structures, and for tissue metal analysis. Results will be communicated through completion and submission of plain English reports, as required by permits granted by the Aurora Research Institute and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Fieldwork will be conducted from August 01 to November 30, 2007 in the study area between Damoti Lake and Ranji Lake, east of the Damoti Lake Camp (64 8' 33.56"N 115 7' 7.19"W).
