Objective(s): To understand and describe northern scientific research capacity, the state of northern teaching and learning, and to compare national investments in the Northwest Territories and in other jurisdictions.

Project Description: The importance of this research is to articulate northern science research capacity, the role of colleges in building northern capacity, and the knowledge-based investments Canada is making in the North. Members of the research team will visit the Aurora College campuses in Yellowknife, Fort Smith and Inuvik to undertake literature searches. Other than accessing college libraries, the research team will also employ the resources of other libraries. This information will be used to generate a paper which will be presented at the International Polar Year GeoNorth Conference in Yellowknife (August 2007). It is expected that the findings of the study will be published in peer-reviewed journals. Publications relating to this study will be made available to NWT communities through the Aurora Research Institute. The study will be conducted from June 12 to August 31, 2007.
