Specifically, this study intends to identify and compare which strategies are perceived by South Slave school education leaders to be most effective.
Project Description: The purpose of this study is to explore strategies that empower and sustain schools improvement planning. The research endeavors to determine what kind of approaches emerge as having impact on school improvement in a diverse cross-cultural context. Specifically, this study intends to identify and compare which strategies are perceived by South Slave school education leaders to be most effective. The research builds on a re-conceptualization of school improvement theory in this unique cross-cultural context. The study should also stimulate leadership capacity and school improvement throughout the region. The research will involve a complete literature review of school improvement and educational leadership databases, followed by identifying 8 to 12 participant school administrators and staff to hold individual and focus group participant meetings. Participants will be drawn from the South Slave Divisional Education Council (SSDEC), which serves the communities of Fort Smith, Hay River, Katlodeechee First Nation, Fort Resolution, and Lutsel K'e. A final report will be provided to the SSDEC and Aurora Research Institute as well as any other interested parties. The study will be conducted from June 12 to December 31, 2007.
