Project Description: In order to develop realistic models, spring break-up and, if possible, freeze-up will be observed by researchers to assist in understanding historical data. The primary objective for 2006 is to document the daily progression ice break-up from small aircraft and from the ground. Much relevant data has already collected by the Flood Watch Committee. Water and ice levels will be measured before and after ice movements with standard survey instruments (typically using a surveyor's rod and level, or with computerized survey instruments 'total station' and GPS). A 2006 river bed survey will refine the data gathered in 2005, particularly in the vicinity of the delta.
