Objective(s): The main objective of the study is to revisit the benchmark measures that represent the enduring data from the Phase I research done in 2001. As background for the upcoming 2005 survey, MNet conducted focus groups in November 2003, primarily funded by Industry Canada/SchoolNet. The focus groups showed how patterns of use and attitudes have changed since 2001. The current field survey will enable MNet to explore the meaning of these changes - specifically how the Internet has affected young people's social relationships, their understanding of privacy, their sense of online accountability, and the ways in which they learn and use technology for online creation and innovation. The findings of the study will inform public and school Internet policy, as well as education programs aimed at teaching young Canadians the critical thinking skills they need to apply to their use of the Internet.
