Objective(s): A large international group of scientists have joined together to use radars to study the high altitude weather ("space weather") and its effects upon the low-altitude weather on the ground. This SuperDARN community has constructed nine radars in the northern hemisphere and seven in the southern hemisphere. These radars measure the high-altitude "space weather" maps. To view the entire "north polar cap" region, two new radars are planned (to be called PolarDARN radars), including one in Inuvik. The PolarDARN observations will help the researchers to understand the connections between high and low altitude weather. PolarDARN measures that part of the sun's energy which flows to the Earth in the solar wind. The solar wind is connected directly to the polar regions which makes them very important regions to study.
