Objective(s): This research explores the relationship among learning, public involvement in environmental assessment (EA) and sustainable development. If EA is a tool of sustainable development, then it follows that not only should EA influence the nature of the project, but also the assessment participants. The central research question is: Can organizational learning take place through participation in EA? This study focuses on two EA case studies: the Wuskwatim Generating Station and Transmission Lines in Manitoba, and the Snap Lake Development Project in the NWT. The purpose is to verify the significance of factors found to influence learning.
