Objective(s): The objective of this program is to carry out aerial reconnaissance and preliminary site investigations, topographical aerial mapping, and surface reconnaissance in the general vicinity of the proposed route for the Mackenzie Gas Project. Information from aerial reconnaissance at proposed facilities, infrastructure, construction support, field trenching trials and borrow source sites will be used in the preparation of subsequent regulatory applications and will form the database to be used for future geotechnical programs. Aerial reconnaissance will be used to collect baseline information; confirm mapping at proposed sites; identify gravel sources; and study routing and route access options. Air photos of the entire route will be collected and will be used to prepare topographic plans of the various sites. The surface component of this project includes a bathymetric survey of potential water sources, to identify suitable water sources to be accessed during the construction phase. As well, slopes will be surveyed and river crossings will be profiled at some of the proposed major river/channel crossings. Vegetation, ground cover and drainages will be examined at field trenching sites and to evaluate the trenching route and develop plans for long-term remediation.
