Objective(s): The purpose of this study is to examine carbon exchange between the arctic tundra and the atmosphere. Specifically, the researchers are interested in variation in carbon exchange in response to environmental factors such as soil moisture and weather (temperature and precipitation) and the difference in carbon exchange between different tundra types (e.g. shrub tundra versus tussock tundra). This research is motivated by a need to better understand tundra's role in the global carbon cycle and also its contribution to Canada's national carbon budget, and therefore its contribution to global climate warming.
