Objectif(s): This study is an examination through sociocultural and archaeological methods of long-term Copper Inuit - European intersocietal interaction during the 19th and 20th centuries. Research will explore the interaction between Copper Inuit and the Royal Navy expedition on Victoria Island during the 19th century, and processes of cultural change as a result of the impact of the European world-system. Full investigation through oral interviews with Holman elders is of central importance to this project. Oral data will be collected using professional and ethical methods supported by the community and by the University of Manitoba Research Ethics Board. The archaeological component is being reviewed (and permitted) by the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre.
