Objective(s): The objectives of the research are to examine how changes in active layer depth influence groundwater and surface water chemistry in two subbasins of the Daring Lake basin in the headwaters of the Coppermine River Basin. In addition, a snow survey of the snowpack in the Exeter, Yamba and Daring Lake catchments will be conducted prior to the spring melt to estimate the basin snowpack water equivalent. This study continues a monitoring program which was initiated in 2002. It also assists in examining the response times between rainstorms and stream discharge and the sources of water (ground or event water) contributing to the stormflow, and how these sources change during rainfall events and through the course of the season.
