Objective(s): This study examines the regeneration dynamics of White spruce in the Mackenzie Delta and Black spruce on seismic lines. Researchers will sow seeds in the Delta and in the Uplands on various soil manipulations in order to study regeneration. Results will be compared with observations of natural regeneration. This study also examines the potential for seeds to disperse on snow. Researchers will quantify the number of seeds that can be produced and dispersed by a species during the winter period, focusing on alder and Black spruce. In addition, pollen will be collected from various species in order to test a micrometeorological model for pollen dispersal. Finally, the production of pollen grains will be quantified and related to the diameter of the shrub or tree.
