Objective(s): Data from a number of studies indicate the likelihood of northern communities with a prevalence of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) children above the national average. Students with FASD bring a wide variety of behavioral and cognitive disabilities to the schools and present a challenge to the administration and leadership. Examination of school governance and administration as it relates to students with FASD has not to date, been a source of significant research. The school, by its willingness to accommodate the diversity of behavior and achievement of FASD students, plays a major role in their success. Schools which initiate change to integrate students with FASD create a supportive school community, retain more students and in doing so become more effective. The goal of this research is to investigate the integration of FASD children into their respective schools, the administrative values and practices applied, and perceived outcomes, to improve school and community responses to students with FASD.
