Objective(s): The completion of the proposed project will meet the requirements of the Stagg River Fish Habitat Compensation Agreement between the Department of Transportation, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, and SNC-Lavalin. This program is a detailed assessment of the created/enhanced habitat at Frank Channel, based on fish use and function in comparison with habitat design targets.
Project Description: The research team will assess the created/enhanced habitat at Frank Channel, based on fish use and function in comparison with habitat design targets. Habitat monitoring will require seasonal assessments within the open water period at times associated with the life stages of the targeted fish (Northern Pike). During early spring, late spring, mid-summer and late summer, Frank Channel habitat will be monitored for habitat accessibility, stability, fish use, pike spawning success and general rearing and forage successs of Y-O-Y pike. Fish will be sampled by way of electro-fishing, dip-netting, and/or seine netting. All fish will be live sampled. Water samples and a photographic record of habitat creation/enhancement activities (during pre/post construction periods) will be carried out.
