Objectif(s): The goal of the project team is to identify contradictions between northern workers' everyday experiences and child welfare policies and programs. The researchers will examine the child welfare system, by comparing the workers' everyday experiences with public documents relating to child welfare, and attempt to identify potential solutions to any contradictions identified. This study will seek to provide valuable information to northern social workers, by adding to the limited body of knowledge of northern social work practice.

Description du projet: The research team will recruit participants for the study from among the child protection workers employed by the Inuvik Regional Health and Social Services Board. Participants will be recruited only from communities with a population less than 1500. Participation in the study is voluntary, and all participants will sign a consent form. The study will employ semi-structured qualitative interviews, which are structured along the themes of: (1) The worker's view of and assessment of child welfare services in their community; (2) The appropriateness of the service options; (3) Service needs; and (4) New directions.
