Objective(s): The proposed study will examine differences in parent's viewpoints related to their priorities for their children's learning experience and educational goals. This issue will be studied in Fort Smith, NT, a small Northern, mixed aboriginal (Dene and Metis) and non-aboriginal community with a single shared school resource. Data produced in this study will be used to assist in program and policy development, as a base for theory building, and to assist in understanding cross-cultural interactions in the context of sharing collective community resources.

Project Description: The proposed study will examine differences in parents viewpoints related to their priorities for their childrens learning experience and educational goals. The reseacrcher will survey parents in Fort Smith, NT to determine what factors are important to them regarding their children's public education. Interviews will be conducted following identification of key issues emerging from the survey data, to determine how these issues are influenced by the parent's personal experiences and cultural beliefs. The researcher recognizes the rights of individuals to withhold information at their discretion. All information gathered will be kept confidential.
